Definition
Carotid Artery Blockage, also known as Carotid Artery Disease or Carotid Artery Stenosis, occurs when plaques (mostly fatty deposits) produce an obstruction in the carotid artery.
This blockage can impede the normal flow of blood and oxygen to the brain, increasing the risk of stroke or transient ischemic attacks (TIAs).
Symptoms
* Sudden Numbness or Weakness: You may experience numbness or weakness, often on one side of the body. This can affect the face, arm, or leg. A simple way to remember this is the acronym FAST: Face, Arms, Speech, Time.
* Difficulty Speaking: You may have trouble speaking, slurred speech, or difficulty understanding speech.
* Confusion: You might feel confused or have trouble understanding what is happening around you.
* Vision Problems: Vision may be impaired, with blurred or double vision, or you may lose vision in one or both eyes.
* Dizziness or Loss of Balance: You may feel dizzy, lose your balance, or have difficulty walking.
* Severe Headache: A sudden, severe headache, often described as the worst headache of one's life, can be a sign of a hemorrhagic stroke (caused by bleeding in the brain).
Causes

Treatments
Procedure: A catheter with a balloon is used to widen the narrowed artery, and a stent may be placed to keep the artery open.
